Traffic slowed to a crawl on I-580 Westbound on Saturday evening in Oakland after two cars were left abandoned near Seminary Avenue after a highway shooting left two with gunshot wounds, an official with the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP officials responded to a call that two vehicles were abandoned on the highway at 4:03 p.m. But when investigators arrived on scene, they discovered that both vehicles were empty.

Investigators later learned that two victims abandoned a black Chevrolet SUV which was parked on the right shoulder of the highway. The other vehicle, a black Mercedes SUV which was stalled in the middle of the highway, was unrelated to the shooting.

Shortly after the cars were found abandoned, two victims self-admitted to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. A third car that was traveling in the Eastbound direction was also struck by a stray bullet, but no one was harmed.

All westbound lanes have been reopened after initially closing to traffic at around 4:55 p.m.
