UPDATE posted at 9:57 PM ET:

On Thursday night, former President Donald Trump posted his first tweet in more than two years. The post on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, features Trump’s mug shot, along with text that reads, “ELECTION INTERFERENCE” as well as “NEVER SURRENDER!” The tweet also links to a fundraising page.

Trump, who had been booted from Twitter in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, was reinstated on the social media platform after billionaire business tycoon Elon Musk acquired the company. But until Thursday, Trump had not yet posted anything since his account was reinstated.

Original story below:

Former President Donald Trump was booked at a jail in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday.

“We did nothing wrong at all. And we have every right, every single right, to challenge an election that we think is dishonest,” Trump said after surrendering.

The former president’s mug shot has been released.

Trump and multiple other individuals have been accused of seeking to alter the Peach State’s 2020 election outcome to benefit Trump, according to the introduction to the indictment.

“Defendant Donald John Trump lost the United States presidential election held on November 3, 2020. One of the states he lost was Georgia,” the indictment declares. “Trump and the other Defendants charged in this Indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump. That conspiracy contained a common plan and purpose to commit two or more acts of racketeering activity in Fulton County, Georgia, elsewhere in the State of Georgia, and in other states.”

Trump skipped the GOP presidential primary debate on Wednesday night and apparently intends to skip all of the debates. He holds a massive lead over the rest of the GOP presidential hopefuls and appears poised to easily secure the nomination again.
