SANTA CLARA — Former Dallas Cowboys’ first-round pick Taco Charlton won’t be suiting up for the 49ers this season, not after going on Injured Reserve ahead of today’s preseason game against the Denver Broncos.
Charlton is believed to have sustained a hamstring injury. Signed Aug. 1, he played 23 snaps in Sunday’s 34-7 loss at the Las Vegas Raiders to open the preseason. The 49ers were his fifth team since leaving the Cowboys after the 2017-18 seasons.
He is the fourth player to go on Injured Reserve since camp began July 25, the others being defensive lineman Darryl Johnson and cornerbacks Anthony Averett and Terrence Mitchell.
The 49ers signed two defensive linemen ahead of hosting the Broncos: La’Darius Hamilton, formerly of the Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, and Tomasi Laulile, who previously played for the Houston Gamblers of the United States Football League.
Also, the 49ers waived running back Khalan Laborn, an undrafted rookie who had one carry (no yards) in three snaps last Sunday. Laborn’s exit could mean a heavier workload today for Jordan Mason, Ty Davis-Price and Jeremy McNichols, especially if the 49ers sit Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell (adductor).
