OAKLAND — A 17-year-old boy has died from his wounds after he was shot last Wednesday at the East Oakland site of a memorial for a person who had recently died, police said Monday.
Police identified the youth as Alex Quevedo. He died Sunday at a hospital.
Investigators have not specified a percieved motive for the shooting. No arrests have been announced.
The shooting happened about 2:09 a.m. Aug. 9 in the 2200 block of East 24th Street at Highland Avenue, a primarily residential area.
Quevedo, who lived in the area, was in a group with numerous other people but no one else was injured. They were at a memorial site for a man who police were told died the previous Monday from a heart attack.
As the group gathered outside, at least two people began shooting at them from the northern direction on Highland Avenue, police said.
No other people were hurt, but some parked vehicles were hit by the gunfire.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in the teen’s killing for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
