Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has pointed out that the need to secure the U.S. border is a matter of “humanitarian conscience.”
“The reason for strong border control is not xenophobia, bigotry, or hate. The reason is humanitarian conscience,” Kennedy noted in a post on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.
“Democrats and Republicans can agree that the humanitarian nightmare that has resulted from essentially handing immigration policy to the drug cartels is unacceptable. We need to take back control,” he declared. “Ruthless criminal cartels have woven drugs, immigration, and human trafficking together into a multi-billion dollar business,” he noted. “Biden administration policy has greatly exacerbated the situation. The border is out of control. Immigration is being administered by the cartels, not our government,” he added.
“Our policy will be first, to get the border under control. Second, to work with other countries to stem the tide of migrants. Third, to fully fund and prioritize the administrative infrastructure for lawful, orderly immigration to this country,” he wrote.
Kennedy asserted that he would “destroy the cartels’ business model” and indicated that “cameras, motion detectors, lights, and where necessary, physical barriers” could be used to help secure the U.S. border.
Polling indicates that President Joe Biden is positioned to trounce Kennedy and Marianne Williamson in the Democratic presidential primary.
GOP Rep. Chip Roy of Texas is urging his colleagues to refuse to fund the Department of Homeland Security unless steps are taken to help tackle the border crisis.
“No border security, no funding,” Roy wrote in a letter. “Simply put, no member of Congress should agree to fund a federal agency at war with his state and people. We have a moral obligation to protect our states, our nation, and, importantly, the migrant children getting abused from the disaster transpiring at our southern border.”
