It’s reputed that out of 145 M-code Thunderbirds built in 1962, with a mere 25 being hardtops like this vehicle. Features include Swing-Away steering wheel, power windows and other accessories, air conditioning, and chrome Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. Many new parts have been installed including the tires, brakes, fuel pump, fuel lines, brake booster, spark plugs, and wires. Painted red with off-white leather interior, this 1962 Thunderbird will come with receipts and a clear title.

This Rangoon Red (code J) Thunderbird hardtop continues to wear its factory chrome and stainless trim, emblems, handles, headlights, grille, and bumpers. The seller states a cosmetic piece at the bottom of the antenna is missing and there are spots of rust at the back wheel well.

A set of 14-inch chrome 48-spoke Kelsey-Hayes chrome wire wheels with tri-bar center caps are wrapped in 215/75/14 Hankook Kinergy ST whitewall tires.

The interior is furnished with Light Pearl Beige (code 84) leather interior with front bucket seats. This Thunderbird features the famous Swing-Away steering wheel, and power windows, door locks, and driver’s seat.

The gold padded dashboard houses a 120-mph speedometer, clock, and fuel/temperature gauge. The odometer shows 58,874, which the seller states is accurate.

The engine is a rare 340-horsepower 390cid V8 with a trio of Holley two-barrel carburetors complemented by chrome valve covers and a finned open-element air cleaner. The engine bay features power steering and brakes, SelectAire Conditioner, and mechanical radiator fan.

According to the seller, this M-code 1962 Ford Thunderbird was purchased new by Aurelbelle Shaffer, who was the wife of the Raymond Shaffer, the former president of Greyhound. Aurelbelle drove this Thunderbird as her second car, always keeping it parked under a carport in Scottsdale. In 1992, the car was placed in an Arizona storage facility until it was moved to Georgia in 2010.
