A 21-year-old man was found shot to death Saturday morning outside Oakland’s Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Authorities believe he was shot around 11:04 a.m. in the church parking lot, which is in the 600 block of Alma Avenue near Oakland High School. His name has not yet been released. The deceased, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was found by a neighborhood resident.

Police are trying to determine a motive for the killing and why the victim, who resides in another part of Oakland, was in that neighborhood. No arrests have been made.

The death is the 61st homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time, police had investigated 67 homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
