Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air.
“Tri-five” Chevrolets will forever be a favorite among collectors, and this nifty ’56 blends modern enhancements with retro looks for the perfect overall package. It went through restoration in 2016 wherein it received a smoothed, clean look with shaved door handles, shaved emblems, and a freshening of the exterior finishes. Best of all, this Bel Air received a heart transplant in the form of a big-block 427cid that has been paired with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. It is now offered with a clean title, and the auction ends Tuesday, so act quickly.
At nearly 70 years old, the Bel Air models from the mid-1950s have aged gracefully and continue to hold a special place in the classic car world. This two-door took the already-timeless design and brought it into the modern era: It was restored in 2016 in a two-tone combination of Tuxedo Black and Platinum. Curb appeal was further enhanced by a set of staggered Boyd Coddington wheels which are sized 17 inches up front and 18 inches in the rear.
In line with the car’s restomod mission are a number of improvements to the interior. Power steering, air conditioning, power windows, and remote keyless entry have been added, along with bucket seats, a center console, a tilt steering wheel, and an Alpine audio system.
In place of the car’s original motor resides a big-block 427cid V8 that is upgraded with a Holley Sniper fuel injection system. The listing states that the motor was built by Bill Mitchell Racing Products, and additional equipment includes aluminum valve covers, an aluminum intake manifold, a serpentine belt system, an aluminum radiator, a K&N air filter, and headers. Torque is fed rearward through a Tremec five-speed manual transmission.
With all that power on tap, it’s a good thing this build also included updates to the chassis and braking systems to keep things under control. Underpinnings come from an Art Morrison chassis with an independent front end and a solid rear axle. Stopping power comes from Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes.
One lucky bidder could take this sleek ’56 home. Check out the listing today and throw in a bid if you think it would look good in your garage!
