OAKLAND — An apparent running gun battle between the occupants of two vehicles Monday afternoon in downtown Oakland left some vehicles and at least one building hit by bullets, but no people were found injured, authorities said.
The gunfire started about 12:21 p.m. in the area of 10th and Washington streets, just a few blocks from the Police Administration Building. People inside the building could hear the gunshots.
Witnesses said the occupants of two vehicles were shooting at each as they were driving. The exchange of gunfire moved through several blocks in the area before it concluded, authorities said.
Police blocked off traffic on some streets as they searched for evidence.
Casings were found at 10th and Washington streets, 10th and Clay streets and on Franklin Street at Ninth and 11th streets, authorities said.
No wounded victims were found, but police said some parked vehicles and a building were hit.
What prompted the shooting was under investigation. No arrests were announced.
