This piece of modern Mopar history is available now on AutoHunter, the online auction platform powered by ClassicCars.com. After a decades-long hiatus, the Dodge Challenger came roaring back to the market for the 2008 model year with heritage-inspired styling, modern amenities and safety features, and – of course – Hemi V8 power. This 2009 model is the product of Dodge’s SRT (Street & Racing Technology) performance division and packs a high-output 6.1-liter Hemi under the hood that sends its brute force to the road through a six-speed manual gearbox. All of that power is wrapped in a lovably familiar design finished in HEMI Orange Pearl Coat with carbon fiber-like stripes. The cockpit offers Dark Slate Gray leather and microfiber seating for five. Whoever places the winning bid will not only get to jump into the driver’s seat, but they’ll also receive two keys, a window sticker, a build sheet, a Priced Order Confirmation sheet, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear title in the seller’s name.
There’s no mistaking this for anything but a Challenger. The HEMI Orange Pearl Coat exterior has quad round headlights, dual snorkel hood scoops, body-color mirror caps modeled after those on the original Challenger, a black rear spoiler that visually connects this car to its 1970s ancestor, and full-width taillights – just like the ones Mustang and Camaro drivers were used to seeing when Nixon was in office.
The big power under the hood is channeled to the road through 20-inch factory wheels and 245/45ZR20 front and 255/45ZR20 rear Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.
Inside the Dark Slate Gray leather and microfiber cabin, there are even more retro styling cues, such as the trapezoidal shape of the gauge cluster, the slanted shifter console, and the pistol-grip shifter. There are plenty of modern touches as well, including power windows, locks, and mirrors; air conditioning; cruise control; heated front seats; a touchscreen Uconnect GPS navigation system; and a 13-speaker Kicker High Performance audio system with a 322-watt amplifier and 200-watt subwoofer.
Important numbers and levels are shown in the “four-bomb” gauge cluster, which includes a 180-mph speedometer with a digital multi-information display, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and readouts for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer shows 3,201 miles, which is in line with the mileage on the CARFAX report.
As the most potent Challenger offered in 2009, this SRT8 model is equipped with a naturally aspirated 6.1-liter Hemi V8 that that pumps out 425 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. A TREMEC TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential turn the engine’s sound and fury into forward motion.
Disc brakes with vented rotors and red Brembo calipers help shave off speed when that forward motion needs to be paused for red lights and stop signs.
This Challenger previously appeared on AutoHunter, but it is now being relisted at a lower reserve price than before. The CARFAX report starts in July 2009 and shows an accident-free vehicle history in New York. Two recalls were issued in early 2018 regarding the fire extinguisher and passenger-side airbag inflator. An additional recall was issued in late 2022 concerning the Takata airbag recall campaign. The winning bidder will receive two keys, a window sticker, a build sheet, and a Priced Order Confirmation sheet along with the car.
