SAN JOSE — A man who was arrested by San Jose police after a standoff in Sacramento earlier this week was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in East San Jose in June, authorities said.

Tyrese Burse, 21, of San Jose, was arrested Tuesday evening in the Arden-Arcade neighborhood of the state capital after he reportedly ran from an SJPD arrest team and holed up inside an apartment on Morse Avenue. After a few hours, Burse surrendered to a contingent of police that came to also include Sacramento-area law enforcement.

San Jose police contend that Burse was responsible for a June 29 shooting near Lanai Avenue and Dixie Drive in San Jose that left a man seriously wounded. The victim died from his injuries at a local hospital July 7; his name has not been publicly released by police.

Police have not disclosed the motive and circumstances behind the deadly shooting, saying only that the case remains under investigation.

Burse had not been charged as of Thursday, and the timing of his arrest means prosecutors have until late Friday morning to file a criminal complaint. He has an arraignment scheduled for Friday, and he was being held without bail in the county Main Jail, according to jail records.
