CONCORD — A solo-vehicle crash Sunday morning on Highway 242 left the driver dead and a passenger badly injured, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP has not yet provided the sexes and ages of the two people.

The CHP said that at about 1:54 a.m. Sunday, a blue Nissan Sentra with two occupants was traveling southbound on Highway 242 when it struck the guardrail of the Concord Avenue off-ramp.

In a news release, the CHP said that “during the crash sequence,” the right front passenger was ejected from the vehicle and suffered major injuries.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, the CHP said. The passenger was taken to a hospital where their condition was not available.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or the events leading up to it is asked to contact the CHP’s Contra Costa office in Martinez at 925-646-4980 or email 320Investigations@chp.ca.gov.Source: www.mercurynews.com
