PITTSBURG — Two people died Friday night after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 4 near Bay Point, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 8:15 p.m. in the eastbound direction at the Bailey Road exit, the CHP said. Both people were ejected from a GMC pickup truck after the vehicle collided into a Volkswagen sedan, veered off the roadway and overturned.
Both of the occupants of the GMC were taken to a hospital but succumbed to their injuries, CHP said. It’s unclear if either of the two people was wearing a seatbelt.
All eastbound lanes near Bailey Road were temporarily closed after the collision, but were reopened by 11:30 p.m.
The Contra Costa County coroner’s office has not yet released the names of the people who died. The Volkswagen driver was not injured in the crash, according to the CHP.
