OAKLAND — Police have identified two people who they say are persons of interest in last week’s fatal shooting of a man near the Uptown District and are asking for the public to be on the lookout for them.

The shooting happened June 21 about 6:30 p.m. in the 400 block of 26th Street and ended the life of 27-year-old Daly City resident Matheus Gaidos. Police released Gaidos’ identity Tuesday.

Authorities released separate images of a man and a woman taken on the day of the shooting but did not release detailed descriptions of the pair. The man is seen wearing glasses and what appears to be an orange-colored shirt.

The woman appears to have long hair down to her stomach and is wearing dark clothing.

Police said the two were walking in the area prior to the fatal shooting. That stretch of 26th Street is a mixture of homes and businesses that runs between Broadway and Telegraph Avenue.

The shooting happened after the gunman, who was walking a dog, and Gaidos got into a dispute while Gaidos was delivering flowers to an apartment building, police said. An ambulance rushed Gaidos to a hospital, but he died there.

Gaidos’ killing was the 51st homicide investigated by Oakland police in 2023.
