Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe. Powered by a 350CI Chevrolet V8 and backed by a power glide automatic. It is finished in factory Ash Gold over a black vinyl interior.
These first generation Camaros have clean and aggressive styling and, more importantly, are the ones that created the icon that the Camaro became. Their interiors are simple yet comfortable, and the instrument layout is classic 1960s awesomeness at its very best. The overall condition of the interior appears to be excellent with no noticeable needs whatsoever.
Topping it all off is the very cool center console mounted shifter that is the best looking automatic shifter of any Camaro ever built.
This specific car has all the features that to me make the first generation Camaros so cool, including the RS style hide-away headlights, and SS badging.
The seller states that the car has a rust-free exterior and was originally finished in Seafrost Green (paint code P) but was repainted Ash Gold (paint code G) approximately 10 years ago. Features include chrome bumpers, a black grille with the aforementioned hide-away headlights, a black nose band stripe, simulated hood ports, a fender-mounted antenna, a driver-side mirror, a color-keyed rear spoiler, and an SS fuel cap.
The car rides on 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels with 235/60R15 front and 245/60R15 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
The 350cid V8 engine powering this Camaro features chrome valve covers, a Weiand aluminum intake manifold, 4 barrel carburetor, Edelbrock air cleaner, exhaust headers, and a newer Optima Yellowtop battery. The seller adds that an oil change was completed last year.
The first generation Camaro is one of my all time favorite pony cars of the 1960s and this example, while not original, has all the options I could want in a Camaro to enjoy all summer long. The modifications on this car only make me want it more, as this Camaro is a driver’s car rather than something to win a show with.
