A San Francisco teacher targeted white, male students in her class by having them stand up and disclose whether they “felt like a minority,” Fox News Digital reported, citing California Public Records Act documents it said it obtained.
As a result, the city’s school district suspended the teacher, Fox News Digital added.
What are the details?
The cable network said during the fall of 2022 Nicole Noel Henares allegedly asked white male students in her Lowell High School English class to stand up and say if they “felt like a minority.”
As a result, students felt “confused, sad and … there was no correct answer for them in that moment,” Fox News Digital reported, citing student interviews with the San Francisco Unified School District.
A parent submitted a complaint, and the district placed Henares on paid administrative leave beginning Sept. 15 and conducted an investigation, the cable network noted.
The teacher allegedly admitted to singling out the white, male students “out of frustration and anger,” according to investigative interviews conducted Oct. 14 and Nov. 10, Fox News Digital said, adding that she claimed the students in question dominated class discussions, which pushed her to single them out. However, the students denied this, the cable network said.
Students said in interviews during the district’s investigation that Henares singling them out was “in no way related to the class content,” Fox News Digital also said.
In addition, students also claimed inappropriate material was part of Henares’ class, including the sexually explicit Lil Nas X song “Montero,” the cable network added.
While Henares denied teaching about the Lil Nas X song, the district said the tune was downloaded on Google Classroom in two different places, according to Fox News Digital, which added that multiple students confirmed she taught about the tune.
In mid-December, she was given a 15-day unpaid suspension to be served for the remainder of the month and into early January 2023, the cable network reported.
Fox News Digital said the district didn’t respond to its question regarding whether Henares still is a Lowell High School employee, but the cable network said Henares’ LinkedIn page lists her as a SFUSD high school English teacher.
Henares began working for the district in October 2020, Fox News Digital said, adding that she didn’t respond to its request for comment.
