OAKLAND — A man was killed and a woman critically wounded in a shooting Sunday morning at an East Oakland gas station, authorities said.

No other information about the victims has been released,  including their ages and residences. But police believe they knew each other.

The shooting was reported about 5:30 a.m. Sunday at a gas station at 66th Avenue and San Leandro Street a short distance from the Coliseum

The man was found shot outside at the rear of the station. He was pronounced dead there.

The woman was taken to a hospital by another person and was in critical condition, authorities said.

At least one structure and some vehicles were hit by the gunfire, but no other injuries were reported.

Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made.

The killing is the 44th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated 47 homicides in the city.
