The performance-oriented Pontiac brand may be gone, but it’s far from forgotten in the muscle car community. Following up on the recent feature that highlighted a friend’s 2000 Trans Am, I came across a similar car in the marketplace that checks a lot of boxes for a Pontiac enthusiast.
The Pick of the Day is a low-mileage 1998 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Portage, Michigan. (Click the link to view the listing)
“Very clean, low-mileage WS6 Pontiac Trans Am. All maintenance performed and ready to drive,” the listing states.
The fourth-generation Firebird first came to life in model year 1993, sharing F-body chassis underpinnings with its sibling, the Chevrolet Camaro. A mid-cycle refresh was performed in 1998 which brought a new hood, a revised front fascia with dual intakes, modified taillights, and updated trim. The available WS6 Ram Air performance package ramped things up another notch courtesy of a dual-inlet hood, distinct 17-inch wheels, a tuned suspension, and of course – trim-specific badging to show it all off.
This 25-year-old Firebird shows just 64,686 miles on the odometer. While mostly stock in configuration, a few upgrades have been added by the seller including headers, a K&N air filter, and an aftermarket Kenwood touch-screen audio system along with subwoofers in a custom (removable) enclosure. The seller states that the condition of the car overall is excellent, although the visors show some aging, and the underside has some slight surface rust as expected with age (see photos in the gallery).
One area in which this Trans Am differs from the previously featured red one is its drivetrain: power here comes from a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission as opposed to a manual. Some drivers prefer an automatic for cruising purposes, and that’s quite alright. This powertrain was still good for 320 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque. The seller states that the car is mechanically sound: “Transmission shifts firm. Recently made a four-hour trip. Great driving, smooth car.”
The removable T-tops are the icing on the cake for this already sweet performance car, and the listing says that the tires have 80 percent tread remaining. A nice smoky burnout should bring that number down nicely!
The seller is asking $21,900 or best offer for this Trans Am WS6.
