OAKLAND –A 50-year-old bicyclist riding in East Oakland died Wednesday night after he was struck by a vehicle that  fled the scene, authorities said.

The name of the man killed, an Oakland resident, was not released.

The man was found about 9:19 p.m. Wednesday, unresponsive on the sidewalk at the intersection of 98th Avenue and D Street.

He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police were able to determine the man was struck by a white vehicle of an unknown make or model in the intersection. The vehicle was last seen going southbound on 98th Avenue.

No driver information was released.

Police traffic investigators said it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
