Opera lecture series

The San Francisco Opera will pull back the curtain on some esteemed works with two Los Gatos events this spring. The San Francisco Opera Lectures series, co-sponsored by the San Jose Opera Guild and the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center, will bring top minds and speakers to the town to discuss the arts.

On Wednesday, May 31, UC Santa Barbara Prof. Simon Williams will discuss the opera “The Woman Without a Shadow” by Richard Strauss. The talk is set from 10 a.m. to noon at the Addison-Penzak JCC, 14855 Oka Road. The event is free for members of the San Francisco Opera Guild, the San Jose Opera Guild and the Addison-Penzak JCC and $10 for nonmembers.

‘Bike to Wherever’

“Bike to Wherever Days” are set for May 18-20, and residents are encouraged to leave their cars at home and pick up their two-wheeled ride instead. The campaign encourages residents around the Bay Area, all ages and skill levels, to take to the bike lanes.
