Of course, there are a ton of automobile brands that no longer exist. In fact, there is a famous car show in Ypsilanti, Michigan dedicated to automotive orphans. While the show was a fine place for independents like Hupmobile and Nash to garner the spotlight, today you’ll find Big Three brands like Mercury and Pontiac infiltrating the show field — they’re orphans too, right?
In the fifth episode of Drive the Bid Derek Shiekhi, “Jalopy Jeff” Sutton and I selected some of our favorite orphans and models for discussion, including Studebaker, Saab, Triumph, Panhard and more. Is there an orphan brand that you find interesting?
We also touch on topical automotive news, such as Mercedes-Benz discontinuing the CLS-Class later in 2023, though that doesn’t mean the four-door coupe is disappearing completely. Ram also has announced two super-duper pickups before the hammer drops for EV life. And Mazda’s CX-90 is now starting to hit dealerships, though I went on a rant on Mazda’s complicated trim level methodology.
