Saratoga’s tight-knit community is one of the many things that make this city such a special place to live. With summer right around the corner, it’s time to gear up for some fun community events.

Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer event season in Saratoga. The Foothill Club hosts the annual Memorial Day Observance, a heartfelt tribute to those who gave their lives for our country. This year’s event will take place on Monday, May 29, starting with a flag-raising at the Memorial Arch in Blaney Plaza at 9:30 a.m., followed by a procession to Madronia Cemetery for a program that begins at 10 a.m.

On the third Friday of June, July and August, you can join the City of Saratoga for free, family-friendly movie nights at El Quito Park. It’s a great way to spend a summer evening. The June 16 event will feature “DC League of Super-Pets,” “WALL-E” will be shown on July 21, and on Aug. 18 we’ll watch “Inside Out.” Bring blankets, low chairs and your favorite snacks to these Friday night events. Movies begin at sundown, but be sure to arrive early to enjoy pre-movie activities and set up your spot.

Of course, no summer celebration is complete without a proper Fourth of July party. Saratoga’s annual Independence Day Celebration will be held on Tuesday, July 4 at 9:30 a.m. in Kevin Moran Park. This event is a great opportunity to celebrate our country’s independence with live music, historical characters, a parade and, of course, popsicles and flags for the kids. Don’t forget to deck out your home in red, white and blue and fly the American flag to show your patriotic spirit.

Another crowd favorite is the Classic & Cool Car Show hosted by the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce. On Sunday, July 23, hundreds of classic cars will line Big Basin Way in the Saratoga Village for the annual car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You’ll get to see classic and contemporary cars, taste delicious food from local restaurants and food trucks, and enjoy some great beer and wine from local breweries and wineries. Plus, there will be live music and a lively atmosphere in the heart of the Village.

I can’t wait to see all of you at these exciting community events this summer! It’s a chance to be involved with your city, meet new people and have some fun with your family and friends.
