SALINAS – Two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged selling and rape of a child and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is seeking more information from the public or the possibility of other victims.
Obdulio Aparicio, 38, of Castroville has been arrested, as well as Javier Saavedra, 20, of Salinas.
On April 28, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Patrol Division investigated a report of child abuse from officials at North Monterey County School District which occurred in the 11000 block of Merritt St. in Castroville according to a press release.
Detectives from the Investigations Division responded to the scene. Patrol deputies investigated additional allegations of corporal injury to a spouse, while the Investigation Division investigated allegations of sexual assault of a minor.
Patrol deputies were able to locate and arrest suspect Aparicio who was booked into the Monterey County Jail for felony charges of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse and causing great bodily harm to a child. His bail has been set at $100,000.
Detectives continued the investigation as additional allegations were developed that indicated Aparicio had sold a minor confidential victim to Saavedra. Detectives located both Saavedra and the minor confidential victim residing in the 300 block of Iris Drive in Salinas. Saavedra was interviewed and subsequently arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail for felony charges of contact with a minor for sexual offense, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor 3 years younger, sodomy with a person under 18 years of age, and oral copulation with a minor. His bail has been set at $105,000.
