Student research champ
Raagavalli Karumanchi, a student at Monta Vista High School, took first place at the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Researchers Convention.
The All of Us Research Program is building a nationwide database with health data from diverse populations, especially those underrepresented in biomedical research.
Karumanchi won a People’s Choice Award and placed first in the Research Scholar Program. Her research topic was, “Examining the Relationship between Cardiovascular Health and Sleep Patterns in Postmenopausal Females: Analysis of Hypercholesterolemia, Hypertension, Sleep Apnea and Insomnia.”
Karumanchi was the only high school Research Scholar who won for their research presentation, which she gave alongside scholars at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Karumanchi says her time as an All of Us Research Program Research Scholar “has helped me realize the importance of diversity in research, especially as a woman and young researcher.”
