The latest round of vehicle recalls posted in the last week by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Administration includes potentially corroded SUV frames, possibly deactivated front passenger air bags and power sliding doors causing injuries. Honda and Volkswagen accounted for most of the 790,000 cars recalled in the last week.

Honda CR-Vs could have corrosion
Honda is recalling 563,711 vehicles for potentially having corroded frames, according to a NHTSA recall report. The vehicles involved are in “salt belt” states, where a salt treatment is applied to roadways to combat ice. If the car is driven through puddles and flooded areas, the de-icing salt can accumulate on the car’s rear frame and cause it to corrode over time, Honda said.
Only about 1% of recalled vehicles are expected to have corroded frames, according to Honda, which is not aware of any fatalities or injuries related to the issue.
Honda said owners can expect to get notification letters on May 8, according to the report. The automaker said it would provide owners with either a free repair, or an offer to repurchase the vehicle if it’s beyond repair.
Volkswagen Atlas SUVs’ front passenger air bags could deactivate
Volkswagen is recalling 143,053 of its SUVs because the front passenger air bags may be deactivated. The passenger occupant detection system on affected models may experience a fault in the wiring and deactivate the front passenger air bag when the seat is occupied, which can increase the risk of an injury in a crash, according to a NHTSA report.

Affected owners are expected to begin to be notified by mail on May 26. Until there’s a remedy, the auto maker urged people to not let anyone sit in the front passenger seat.

Kia Carnival power sliding doors causing injuries
Kia is recalling 51,568 of its Carnival minivans because the auto-reverse feature on the power sliding doors may not activate, according to an NHTSA recall report, which can close on a passenger and increase the risk of an injury.
Recalled vehicles:
The NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation said it has received five complaints related to the power sliding doors, three of which were reported injuries and bruises to arms, hands or shoulders.
Kia will notify customers by mail on April 28 about the recall. Affected owners can take their vehicle to dealers, which will update the power sliding door control module software for free.

Volkswagen ID4 doors can open unexpectedly
Volkswagen is recalling 16,207 of its ID4 vehicles because the door handles may have been manufactured to allow water to enter the circuit board assembly, according to an NHTSA report. The doors could open unexpectedly when the vehicle is subject to “high lateral forces” at speeds under 9 miles per hour, increasing the risk of injury while driving.

Volkswagen will begin notifying owners about the recall on May 26. A remedy for the recall is still under development, and Volkswagen will send a second letter once a remedy is available. Volkswagen has issued a stop sale on the 2023 ID4.

Volkswagen TAOS vehicles engines can stall
Volkswagen is recalling 15,874 of its TAOS vehicles because the fuel delivery pump may break, which could cause a sudden engine stall and increase the risk of injury in a crash, according to an NHTSA report.

Volkswagen will begin to notify owners on May 26. Affected owners can take their vehicle to a dealer and have the fuel pump replaced for free.

Porsche Carrera GT suspension issues
Porsche is recalling 489 vehicles for spherical joints, which connect the wishbone suspension components on the front and rear axles, for not meeting Porsche’s service life durability expectations, the automaker said in an NHTSA recall report. The wishbone or spherical joint could fail due to damage from mechanical stress and corrosion, which could increase a risk of a crash.

Porsche will notify customers by June 2 about the recall. A second letter will be sent once the remedy parts are available. If no remedy is available within 60 days, an interim letter will be sent to customers, followed by a final notification when the remedy becomes available.
Dealers will inspect the suspension joints. If damage is found, owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until it is repaired. Once parts are available, dealers will replace the spherical joints, free of charge.

BMW front seats not properly welded
BMW is recalling 51 vehicles for improperly welded seat frames which may not properly restrain occupants during a crash, increasing the risk of injury, according to NHTSA recall reports.

BMW has not received any reports of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
