OAKLAND — One person was fatally shot and another was injured in separate shootings Sunday near the city’s Lake Merritt and in a west Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.

Shortly after 6 p.m., police responded to calls reporting a possible shooting in the 500 block of Bellevue Avenue near the lake.

When officers arrived, they found evidence of an apparent shooting but no sign of an injured person or damaged building or vehicle.

Soon after, officers learned a person suffering from a gunshot wound managed to get a ride to a hospital for treatment. That victim was later listed in stable condition, police said.

Shortly before 7:20 p.m., police learned of a possible injury shooting near 32nd Street and San Pablo Avenue, and officers arrived to find a victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Despite emergency life-saving care provided by officers, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The killing is the 26th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year, following a fatal shooting March 30. The CHP has investigated one homicide on city freeways. Last year at this time Oakland police had investigated 30 homicides in the city.

Investigators did not share any motives or word of any suspects in custody, and did not release any suspect or associated vehicle description.
