CONCORD — A California Highway Patrol officer was hospitalized after a vehicle struck her during a weekend enforcement stop on a busy highway, authorities said.

In a statement posted Sunday to social media, the CHP said the officer had stopped a Chevrolet on the right shoulder of southbound Highway 242 lanes just south of Highway 4, and was standing near the Chevrolet at 8:22 p.m. Saturday.

Moments later, a Mercedes traveling southbound veered off the road and into the Chevrolet, causing it to hit the officer. First responders arrived at the scene and provided care to the officer before taking her to a hospital, where she was treated for injuries, released and was expected to fully recover, the CHP said.

The Mercedes’ driver, who was not injured in the crash, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Police did not share any additional information about the incident, but anyone with information may call the CHP’s Contra Costa office at 925-646-4980.
