ALAMEDA — A man reported missing to authorities earlier this week was found dead in the waters near Marina Village Yacht Harbor on Wednesday, authorities said.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s bureau identified him as Angel Ambriz, 56, of Alameda.
Alameda police had asked for the public’s help in finding Ambriz since a missing-person report filed March 23, and investigators had recovered surveillance-camera video footage of Ambriz walking at the city’s Marina Village Yacht Harbor shortly before 2 a.m. March 18.
In a social-media post Wednesday, police acknowledged Ambriz’s body had been found late Wednesday morning in harbor waters.
“This passing is devastating for our community,” police said in part. “Please keep his grieving loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.”
Friends and family members of Ambriz watched sadly Wednesday morning at the harbor as Alameda Fire Department firefighters assisted with the body’s recovery.
An Ambriz family member who spoke to this news organization said Angel Ambriz was a longtime resident of the harbor and owned a boat there. Ambriz, the eighth child of a family of twelve with roots in Mexico’s Michoacan state, had a passion for providing maintenance to other boats and his own.
