While attending the 2022 Barrett-Jackson Houston auction, the AutoHunter Cinema team ran into this rare 1954 Kaiser Darrin. With only 435 built, the Kaiser Darrin is most well known for being the first fiberglass sports car and patented, sliding pocket doors. This one-year-only limited production automobile was designed by famous coachbuilder Howard “Dutch” Darrin and produced by industrialist Henry J. Kaiser’s Kaiser-Willys Corporation. All Darrins were powered by an L-head 161ci 6- Willys Hurricane-6 engine mated to a floor-mounted three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Finished in green over a light green interior, this Kaiser Darrin (number 88 out of 435 produced) is a fine example of America’s first production fiberglass vehicle.
