They say that big things come in small packages, and the Papa Delta from TOPS Knives exemplifies that remark. Designed with a focus on self-defense application, the little neck knife is big on concealment and tall on defense. Not to mention, its diminutive size is legal in almost all jurisdictions. You will still want to check your local ordinances regarding double-edged knives.

The TOPS Knives Papa Delta

Designed by TOPS Knives President Leo Espinoza, the Papa Delta has design influences from a retired undercover police/intelligence officer. For this reason, the knife is designed for maximum concealment. This is the main reason for the 0.13-inch thin skeletonized profile. Likewise, the Kydex sheath is designed to be worn around the neck, over, or under your shirt for concealment. However, its small profile would easily slip into any pocket undetected.

Like most TOPS Knives, the Papa Delta is constructed of 1095 high carbon steel with TOPS Knives’ excellent heat treat. With an overall length of 5.88 inches, the knife’s weight is a negligible 1.1 ounces. So, it can be worn all day without compromising comfort.

The double edge spear point tip provides for enhanced self-defense capabilities. Running the length of the blade between the two edges is a deep fuller. This helps lighten the Papa Delta and gives it a sleek look.

Although the 1.63-inch blade seems short for defensive purposes, it is sufficient enough to reach surface veins and tendons. Not to mention, it is capable of wreaking havoc on the throat area.

Much like the .22 can make a suitable round for self-defense, small blades like this also have their place. It’s not going to do the same damage as a larger knife, but it does enough to make the trade-off in size and concealability/EDC worth it.

Although it is a ring knife, there is a bit of a twist. The ring on the Papa Delta features an intentional gap in the ring. This is so that the finger can slip out of the ring—without breaking—should your grip be violently compromised.

The Papa Delta features TOPS’ Midnight Bronze Cerakote for an aesthetically pleasing overall package.

Editor’s Note:

I have been using TOPS Knives for many years, and they remain one of my go-to brands. It never seems to matter what I throw at them; they just perform and hold up to the abuse. Coming from a long background in the knife industry, people often ask me what knives I would recommend, and TOPS are always in the top recommendations. The company’s heat treatment is one of the best in the biz.

However, like anything, knives sometimes slip through with a flaw in the heat treat. If you have an issue with any of their knives, contact them, and they will make it right.
