CONCORD — A person died and another person was injured after a shooting outside a strip mall Tuesday under investigation as a homicide, authorities said.

In a limited statement posted to social media, police said dispatchers received a call around 9:48 a.m. about gunshots heard near Solano Way and Broadmoor Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found two people near the mall suffering from gunshot wounds. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity was not immediately available Tuesday, pending next-of-kin notification from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division.

The other was taken to a hospital for treatment; police did not release that person’s injuries or condition.

In a social-media post at 11:18 a.m., police asked residents and others to avoid the area.

Citing an ongoing investigation, police did not share additional information in their statement, including any suspect or vehicle description.
