President Joe Biden made a bizarre claim about his support for gay marriage, and his critics pounced on the comments to mock and ridicule the Democrat.

Biden made the claims during an interview with actor Kal Penn, who was guest hosting “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central.

Penn asked Biden to explain his “evolution” on same-sex marriage, and he launched into a story from the sixties.

“I can remember exactly when my epiphany was,” Biden said.

“I hadn’t thought much about it, to tell you the truth, and I was a senior in high school. And my dad was dropping me off and I remember I was about to get out of the car and I looked to my right and two well-dressed men in suits kissed each other,” Biden claimed.

“They gave each other a kiss and then one went, he looked like he was heading to the department of [undecipherable] building, and the other looked like he was heading to the Hercules Corporation,” he added.

“And I’ll never forget, I turned and looked to my Dad. He said, ‘Joey, it’s simple. They love each other,’” Biden said.

“It’s simple. Now I’m not joking. It’s simple, they love each other,” he concluded. “And it’s never been, it’s just that simple … What is the problem?”

Penn, who is a gay man, did not push back on Biden’s story at all during the interview.

‘Isn’t at all believable’

Many on social media pointed out that Biden’s long history of policy positions had been diametrically opposed to his supposed “epiphany” about same-sex marriage in high school.

“So he’s basically admitting he lied about a moral conviction for the next five decades? How heroic. Also, the idea that he was thinking about gay marriage in 1960-61 is really just silly,” responded Jonah Goldberg of the Dispatch.

“It will never not be weird that Biden simply lies about stuff like this constantly. Biden voted for DOMA in 1996 and was openly saying marriage should be between a man and a woman over a decade later. There’s a 2006 clip from a Meet The Press interview where he says exactly that,” read another popular response.

“Yes, I’m sure he started supporting gay marriage in (checks calendar) 1960,” said Ben Shapiro of the Daily Wire.

“And then he slapped a rainbow flag patch on my school satchel that another LGBT ally had given him during WWI,” joked Mary Katherine Ham.

Even some anti-Republican critics called him out.

“This just isn’t at all believable. Not at all,” responded Joe Walsh, the former GOP congressman who became a virulent Trump critic.
