I know I don’t have to tell you that gun control is a failure. But Democrats keep pushing it even when they refuse to enforce current gun laws. The attack at MSU this week is a prime example. Specifically because it’s a Democrat-run college, in a Democrat city, in a Democrat state, and the suspect was released after a felony gun charge.

Gun Control Fails in MSU Attack

In case you missed it, for currently unknown reasons, a suspect entered the MSU campus Monday night and shot eight people. Of the eight people shot, three are dead, and five are in critical condition. According to reports, some of the injuries were life-threatening.

During the incident, MSU Police and Public Safety suggested that students and staff shelter in place. Likewise, the office ran live updates on Twitter:

According to University Police, the suspect was not affiliated with the college in any way. A short time after the event began, police located the suspect off campus. It is reported that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was no longer a threat to campus safety. As a result, MSU Police and Public Safety lifted the shelter-in-place order.

In addition, MSU Police and Public Safety stated that the suspect had a note on his person. The note is currently being investigated by law enforcement. When/if they release the note, we will be sure to update the story with details.

Leniency Is to Blame

I really hate to have to discuss the political aspects of this tragedy while it is so fresh. It makes me feel ghoulish. However, liberals, Democrats, and the mainstream media (but I repeat myself) force the issue. They “never let a crisis go to waste” and are jumping on this to further push their gun control agenda.

But the real irony is that this incident only further exposes the failures of gun control. And they were hoping no one would notice. But we did notice.

According to Breitbart News, “Prosecutors dismissed felony gun charges against the alleged Michigan State University attacker in 2019, charging him with a misdemeanor.”

Likewise, CCRKBA (Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms) Chairman Alan Gottlieb said in a recent statement:

“Published reports say Anthony McRae was arrested on a felony gun law violation in 2019. However, a few months later, he was arrested a second time on a less serious gun-related crime and was allowed to enter a guilty plea on the misdemeanor charge while the felony charge was dismissed.”

According to reports, the misdemeanor charge resulted in only 18 months of probation. Likewise, since it was only a misdemeanor, he was able to purchase a firearm again following his probation.

Ingham County Prosecutor John Dewane told the Detroit Free Press, “Mr. McRae would have been barred from legally purchasing, owning, or possessing a firearm if he would have been convicted of the (concealed weapons) charge. The misdemeanor conviction did not prevent him from purchasing, owning, or possessing a firearm after he successfully completed his terms of probation.”

It is worth noting that Dewane was not the prosecutor at the time of the suspect’s charges.

Who Is Gun Control Really Targeting?

All of this only adds to the fact that MSU is a gun free zone already. However, that did nothing to stop this either.

So, this all begs the question, who is gun control really targeting? It is clearly not targeting criminals. They keep getting released to do more criminal stuff. It’s obvious that the target is the Second Amendment and law-abiding gun owners. CCKRB’s Gottlieb hits the nail on the head in his statement:

“We’re tired of gun-hating, headline-grabbing politicians racing to the nearest microphone to push their anti-rights agenda every time a criminal or deranged individual commits a violent crime. That’s not justice, it’s political grandstanding designed to penalize people who had nothing to do with the crime. Passing new laws that only impact honest citizens creates the false impression something has been done to prevent a similar crime in the future. At the very least, it’s dishonest.”

As if on cue, Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer capitalized on the tragedy in a tweet. Once again, ignoring the fact that this happened on a Democrat campus, in a Democrat city, in a Democrat state. Her state.

The grift is getting old, and we all see it. These are the people that can’t even enforce the current laws but keep demanding more. How about you stop releasing criminals back into society? That would be a good start.

It’s time to start placing the blame where it belongs. At the feet of progressive Democrats that keep coddling criminals. If they had done their job in the first place, the attack at MSU would have been avoided.
