OAKLAND — A male victim’s death in a downtown Oakland block Wednesday morning was under investigation as a homicide, authorities said.

In limited statements Wednesday evening, police said officers responded around 8 a.m. to reports of an unresponsive person in the 300 block of 17th Street just east of Franklin Street.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim with traumatic injuries and summoned first responders, who pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The killing is the 11th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year, police had investigated 12 homicides in the city by Feb. 15.

The man’s identity was not available, pending next-of-kin notification. No arrests have been announced.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of a suspect.
