ALAMEDA — An 84-year-old resident struck by a minivan at an intersection Tuesday morning later died at a hospital, authorities said.
Shortly before 7:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the city’s Bay Farm Island.
When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian suffering from serious injuries, and learned that he had been crossing an unmarked intersection at Marcuse Street when a Chrysler Town & Country minivan traveling along Mecartney Road struck him.
Officers provided care until Alameda Fire Department firefighters and paramedics responded. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s bureau, the man’s identity was not available Tuesday night.
The Chrysler’s driver, a 63-year-old Alameda resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Neither alcohol nor substances were believed to be collision factors, police said.
