NEWARK — A person was hospitalized for minor injuries after an apparent freeway shooting Wednesday on Highway 84, authorities said.
Around 12:30 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a possible shooting in eastbound Hwy. 84 lanes just west of Thornton Avenue, a CHP officer said.
When officers arrived, they found a person suffering from minor injuries and provided care until paramedics took them to a hospital for treatment.
At least one lane was closed for a brief period to allow for evidence collection, but officers did not issue a Sig-alert, the officer said.
The exact injury and extent of vehicle damage was not shared, and officers did not describe a suspect or associated vehicle, but there does not appear to be any ongoing threat to the public. Investigators with the CHP’s investigative services unit will work with CHP Hayward officers on the incident, the officer said.
