For the second time this season, Moreau Catholic rolled past James Logan in Mission Valley Athletic League play.
The Mariners cruised to a 71-59 victory on Friday night as Kellen Hampton had 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the way.
Lebrie Goudy-Lee added 20 points and Kevin Chapman scored 10 points in front of a packed gym in Union City, one of the largest crowds Moreau has played in front of this season, the team’s coach, Frank Knight, said.
“They feed off it for sure,” Knight said. “But like I told them, it’s a game of momentum swings. So if they keep going and make a couple of shots as they did, then they can make it a ball game.”
Moreau improved to 14-5 overall and 8-0 in league play. The Mariners are still riding a wave of momentum after beating Folsom in the Crush in the Valley showcase last Saturday at Contra Costa College.
“These guys put it on the line each game,” Knight said. “It really doesn’t matter who we play. We can beat anybody, but we can lose to anybody, too. But when the kids are locked in, they play really hard.”
The Mariners could also see an improvement in their play once starter Robert Morgan returns within the next two weeks. He has been out since suffering an ankle injury at the Desert Holiday Classic in Palm Springs.
