Family members, co-workers, city officials and members of the community gathered Friday evening at Mac Dutra Park to light candles and remember the seven victims from Monday’s mass shootings at two Half Moon Bay farms.
Servando Martinez lost his brother Marciano Martinez and spoke at the gathering. “He was always with us in bad times and good times,” said Servando Martinez. “I would’ve liked that he would be with us longer but someone took him away.”
Earlier in the day, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone from the Archdiocese of San Francisco held a prayer and blessing as family members and co-workers returned to Concord Farms, one of the two mushroom farms where Chunli Zhao, 66, carried out his deadly rampage.
“We come today to reclaim this place of death as a place of life, peace, hope and community,” said Archbishop Cordileone before he sprinkled water on the ground and on the heads of the roughly dozen people in attendance.
