OAKLAND — A 37-year-old man shot multiple times Dec. 29 in the Temescal district of North Oakland died from his wounds Thursday, authorities said.
He was identified by police as Azell Burrell. He died about 4:15 a.m. Thursday at the hospital he had been taken to after the shooting.
A motive for the shooting has not been released by investigators. No arrests have been made.
Burrell was shot about 8:05 p.m. Dec. 29 in the 400 block of 43rd Street — a mostly residential area — and prompted a ShotSpotter alert, authorities said.
Burrell, who authorities said lives in another part of Oakland, was found shot in the head and arm inside a vehicle and was taken to a hospital. The vehicle had numerous bullet holes, police said.
Police believe the man got into some kind of dispute with another person that led to the shooting. The suspect fled before police responded to the scene.
His killing is the eighth homicide being investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated nine homicides in the city.
