As tattoos continue to grow in prevalence and popularity, hand and finger tattoos still face some scrutiny. Since these parts of us are almost always exposed, we have been warned to avoid getting them tattooed, along with the face and neck, of course. They’re definitely harder to hide, unless you don’t mind wearing gloves 24/7, a lifestyle habit that could lead to fielding awkward questions at the company meeting. But for many, the satisfaction of having every body part tattooed, down to their fingers and toes, outweighs any possible critiques or consequences.
Hands and fingers have more nerve endings than other body parts, and thus you’ll experience significantly more pain when that needle hits. Combined with the aforementioned visibility, they’re probably not a good idea for a first tattoo spot. Though, many argue that tattoos are earned, so while a finger tattoo may be mildly excruciating, the more rewarding your end result will be.
Since fingers are such a small space to work with, lots of people opt for simple and dainty pieces—you know, the dots and sparkles or perhaps a little crescent. However, there are definitely ways to get more creative, such as microrealism finger pieces. People are also getting bolder and more stand-out finger tattoos, such as ones that incorporate heavy blackwork or even vibrant colors. It would be wrong of us to not warn you, though, that finger tattoos often don’t last very long—usually 6-12 months before beginning to fade. Nonetheless, they look pretty dope during the time they do stay put.
Now, we present to you a hefty selection of finger tattoos that blew us away with their creativity, more than they made us wince thinking about how much they hurt. Would you dare to get your fingers tattooed?
