HALF MOON BAY – A man shot and killed seven people and injured another on Monday in two locations in Half Moon Bay, according to authorities.
The suspect, identified as 67-year-old Half Moon Bay resident Chunli Zhao, was in custody, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said. It is one of the Bay Area’s deadliest mass shootings.
“Zhao is believed to have acted alone,” the sheriff’s office said. “There is no further threat to the community.”
The shooting was reported around 2:20 p.m. at Mountain Mushroom Farm at 12761 San Mateo Road.
The sheriff’s office said deputies arrived to find four victims dead with gunshot wounds in the 12700 block of San Mateo Road. A short time later, three other victims were found dead with gunshot wounds in the 2100 block of South Cabrillo Highway.
An eighth victim was rushed to Stanford Health Care with life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
