A driver was killed Saturday when her car crashed through a backyard fence and landed in the swimming pool of a San Rafael home, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported at 7:25 a.m. Saturday by a 911 call from the home’s residents.

The 2019 Tesla had apparently been westbound on Point San Pedro Road near Loch Lomond marina when it veered off the right side of the road and through the fence at the intersection of Bayview Drive. The house fronts on Bonnie Banks Way.

The driver, who was alone in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. She had not been wearing a seatbelt, a CHP spokesman said.

Her name has not been made public.

That stretch of Point San Pedro Road is four lanes, with a raised median. The speed limit is 40 mph.
