When you are 6-foot 10-inch NBA superstar, luxury vehicle options are limited when you need extra legroom in a package suitable for a future hall of famer. As a 5-foot-8-inch former rec league basketball bench warmer, I can’t relate, but I think a Maybach would be a good place to start if I was Kevin Durant. The Maybach (formerly its own brand, now a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz) has all the proper appointments for a true luxury car and, for those riding in the back, you get a wet bar, reclining rear seats and plenty of legroom.
The Maybach was manufactured at the Sindelfingen production facility in Germany where high-end Mercedes-Benz vehicles have been largely hand-built since the prewar era. Simply put, a Maybach is a solid choice to show the world you have arrived and, at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction, a 2008 Maybach 57S once owned by NBA superstar Kevin Durant will be arriving with no reserve.
“Formerly owned by superstar basketball player Kevin “KD” Durant of the Oklahoma Thunder (formerly Seattle SuperSonics), Golden State Warriors, and currently the Brooklyn Nets,” the Barrett-Jackson listing states. “This 2008 Maybach 57S, with a $408,000 MSRP, was a fitting way for KD to celebrate his 2007-08 Rookie of the Year award.”
The Alpine Silver exterior recently received System X Max Ceramic Nano Coating paint protection with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. Under the hood is a factory-rated 604 hp 6.0-liter V12 engine paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. This luxury car has been well maintained and kept largely original, as the engine bay retains many factory-applied identification and compliance stickers.
The 2008 Maybach 57S once owned by Kevin Durant is available with no reserve at the 2023 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction and is scheduled to cross the stage on Thursday, January 26, 2023.
The auction runs from January 21-29 at Westworld of Scottsdale.
