The landscape of the revolver category is about to change forever. With the release of its two new optics-ready revolvers, the 605 TORO and 856 TORO, Taurus changes how we look at the platform. Or maybe, it’s more appropriate to say that the company is changing the way we look downrange with the platform.
Taurus 605 TORO and 856 TORO Revolvers
Based on the popular Defender series, both models share feature sets and are constructed of stainless steel. This includes the frame, barrel, and cylinder. For this reason, the TORO revolvers are solid and ready to withstand rigorous use in any environment. The revolvers feature a 3-inch barrel and weigh approximately 23.5 ounces, ideal for concealed carry.
What sets the revolvers apart is the optic-ready frame. Utilizing Taurus’s T.O.R.O. (Taurus Optic Ready Option) optic plate, the pistols accept the Holosun K footprint for the mounting of popular optics. Correspondingly, each model includes a fixed trough-style rear sight and replaceable front sight, providing a solid backup.
Where the two differ is in the chambering and subsequent width/weight/capacity. The 605 is chambered in .357 Mag/.38 Special +P and has a capacity of 5 rounds. However, the 856 is chambered in .38 Special +P only and has a capacity of 6 rounds. Likewise, the 605 is 1.41 inches wide and 23.52 ounces, while the 856 is 1.40 inches and 23.5 ounces.

Each model is available in either a matte black or matte stainless finish.
Editor’s Note
For some, an optic on a revolver may seem a little out of place. However, it has just as much of a place as it would on a semi-auto. Keep in mind proper aim on a revolver is just as important as it is with a semi-auto. And an optic is a great aid for new shooters and beneficial for experienced shooters as well. Not to mention, a red dot can be zeroed to specific grain weights and types of ammo. But a traditional fixed-sight revolver cannot.
