This 1962 Chevrolet Biscayne went from humble beginnings to an award-winning street machine known as “Chicayne”. Customized by Rad Rods by Troy, it won the Goodguys 2003 Street Machine of the Year, 2002 SEMA GM’s Design Award and 2002 Mothers Shine Award. Unsurprisingly, Chicayne has also appeared in numerous magazines, and is now being offered for sale at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction.

The exterior is finished in two-tone PPG Medium Cypress and olive, and the custom body has flush-mounted front and rear bumpers, with the OEM turn signals double as air intakes for the turbocharged V8. Vent windows on the doors were removed, with new glass tracking custom-made for a one-piece unit. Additionally, the doors are now remotely opened from the outside. The former Biscayne rides on staggered one-off Billet Specialties “Chicayne” wheels with Nitto Extreme tires.

The interior is finished in olive, sage and beige buffalo suede, and the center console houses a Kenwood tuner, air conditioning outlets, harness control levers and a cell phone deck. For safety, a chromoly roll cage was installed with a pivoting rear center bar to allow entry to the rear seats, with all four seats having a four-point harness.

The upper dash features ten AutoMeter gauges, while the lower dash has Vintage Air controls plus vacuum and fuel gauges. Other custom touches that separate Chicayne from its brethren include a Kenwood KVT911 source unit with touchscreen display and built-in DVD player. The stereo system has a pair of Diamond Audio amps, a set of five-inch Diamond Audio component speakers in the front kick panels, a five-inch component set in the rear deck, and two 10-inch Diamond Audio subwoofers in a sealed box enclosure. Chicayne features sound-deadening material throughout.

Chicayne is more than a pretty face: its twin-turbo 4.6-liter V8 engine produces more than 1,000 horsepower. The engine has a special prototype serpentine pulley system machined by Billet Specialties, stainless 321 titanium exhaust and a Griffin radiator. A 4L80E automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels. The Chevy rides on a one-off-design three-link rear suspension, with the two lower arms boxed for strength with OEM bushings from a 1965 Chevrolet. The lower arm also has a mounting point for the air-ride suspension.
