OAKLAND — The names of two of the city’s recent homicide victims — men who were both shot to death — were released Wednesday by police.
The two shootings, which happened Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, are not believed to be related, police said.
A 31-year-old man fatally shot Christmas Day at a West Oakland homeless camp was identified as Corey Barnett.
Barnett, of Oakland, was visiting the camp in the 2300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way about 11:15 a.m. when he was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Barnett was a frequent visitor to the camp. A motive for the killing remains under investigation.
A 33-year-old man fatally shot about 9:25 a.m. Dec. 24 at a gas station at 102nd Avenue and International Boulevard was identified as Bobby Hale, of Tracy.
He was shot after getting into a dispute with another man, who fled before police got to the station. Police have not released a detailed description of the suspect. Authorities have not specified what they believe the dispute was about.
