CASTRO VALLEY — A 20-year-old Oakland man was fatally shot Monday night as he was getting into his vehicle, authorities said.

His name was not immediately released.

The shooting was reported about 10:15 p.m. Monday in the 22200 block of North 6th Street, a mainly residential area in Castro Valley.

Alameda County sheriff’s Lt. Ray Kelly said dozens of shots were fired at the man, who was hit multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kelly said investigators were trying to determine why the man was in Castro Valley. Investigators were still searching to determine a motive for the killing, as well as the number of shooters.

No arrests were announced.
