ANTIOCH — A woman was in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of her neighbor on Tuesday, authorities said.
According to police, officers responded at 2:13 p.m. to a report of a possible shooting at a home in the 2200 block of Mandarin Way between Sycamore Drive and Mahogany Way, Antioch police Officer Ashley Crandell said.
When officers arrived, they found a woman victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the head, and provided care alongside Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters.
The woman was taken to a hospital and initially listed in critical condition. She later died at the hospital. Her identity was not available, pending next-of-kin notification through the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division.
Police arrested a woman, the alleged shooter, outside the home but did not release information about a possible motive.
At a press conference late Tuesday afternoon, Crandell said the incident apparently happened between two neighbors outside a home, and that a firearm had been recovered.
