We’re used to seeing fine print in advertisements these days. “Terms and conditions apply,” “Your mileage may vary,” and “Batteries not included,” are a few examples. But one seller of a Datsun sportscar clarified that the cat appearing in the car’s photo gallery is not included with the sale.

The Pick of the Day is a low-mileage 1983 Datsun 280ZX listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Simpsonville, South Carolina. (Click the link to view the listing)

“This is an all-original T-top ZX in showroom condition,” the listing states. “The car has been garage-kept and has almost never been in the rain. All functions are working.” The star of the show appears in photo number 18 where an inquisitive orange cat appears to be inspecting the hatchback area.

The 280ZX, otherwise known as the Nissan S130 coupe or the Fairlady Z, got its start in 1979 and lived through 1983. It was a versatile car with available 2+2 seating as well as T-top removable roof panels. The car’s marketing framed it as more of a grand-tourer than an all-out sports car – a move that proved beneficial when the sales numbers were tallied up. A facelift was applied in 1982 that brought new hood ducting, different wheels, revised exterior trim, and interior updates. This generation of Z-car also featured Nissan’s famous voice warning system.

This silver metallic final-year 280ZX demonstrates body and paint finishes that are described by the seller as “nearly perfect,” and the BFGoodrich raised-white-letter tires are new. The odometer shows just 64,570 miles, and based on the photos accompanying the listing, that number is believable. The seller states that functionality of the cassette player is not guaranteed, as there was no cassette available to test it with. Other than that, “all functions are working,” the ad states – and that’s pretty impressive for any 40-year-old car.

Out back, a set of period-correct window louvers complete the exterior package in perfect 1980s style. It’s worth noting that the badging on the hatch states “Datsun 280ZX by Nissan.” This would be the final year for Datsun co-branding on the Z-car.

The seller is asking $37,000 for this 280ZX. As for the cat, that add-on is apparently priceless.
