We’re going to chalk this one up to whaaaaaaat? In a case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire, a man running from two unidentified men wanting to kill him ran straight into the home of retired professional wrestler ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan. It went pretty much how you would think it went. Only it turns out Duggan also has a bit of a Dirty Harry streak to him.
Intruder Enters Home of ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan and Instantly Regrets It
For those who don’t know Jim Duggan, he filled many televisions across America with patriotic badassery on a regular basis. Known as “Hacksaw,” he is the winner of the first ever Royal Rumble Match in 1988. Likewise, he was a one-time United States Heavyweight Champion and one-time World Television Champion, and more. His accolades earned him a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011.
So, it is clear that busting through his door at night was probably not the right choice. However, that is exactly what one man did on December 8, 2022. To say that the man instantly regretted it would be an understatement.
According to OutKick, “Duggan detailed that on Dec. 8, the intruder — believed to be in his mid-20s — entered the home and got in a wrestling match with Hacksaw. He was promptly overtaken by Duggan and held at gunpoint as the wrestler and wife, Debra, called authorities. The man was ‘visibly frightened’ after he was subdued by Duggan, who’s still got the moves years after retiring.”
In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Duggan said that he heard the man pounding on his door, who then barged in. Duggan instantly jumped up and “went back into wrestling mode, aargh” when he charged the man, grabbed him, and threw him out onto the front porch. He then grabbed his .44 Mag and told the man to “spread eagle.”
The man started yelling that men were coming to kill him. Duggan continued to hold the man at gunpoint while his wife called 911. Duggan could hear the men down the road yelling that they were going to kill the man. So, he had his wife turn out the Christmas lights and waited for the police to arrive to sort out the mess.
Advice from the Hacksaw
In his interview with Tucker Carlson, Duggan recounts that the experience was terrifying. One man was on the porch, and others were down the road yelling threats. Even a badass like him knows that things can go awry in a hurry. This made the wait for law enforcement seem to take forever.
However, when asked what people who aren’t professional wrestlers should do, he was adamant that they call the police. When the fight or flight instinct kicks in, what you do with it is up to you. But it is important to get the police on the way, according to Duggan.
Even though he had the situation under control, he was thankful for the quick arrival of the Kershaw County Sherriff’s Department. He even took to Twitter to call out their response:
For those wondering if guns save lives, ask ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan. He might have a word or two on the subject.
As for the man, it turns out a girl down the road had a restraining order against him, which he ignored. So, after breaking into her home, her brother and uncle pistol-whipped him and chased him down the road. He pounded on every door on his way to Duggan’s before winding up in the wrestler’s home. Whether wrestling is real or not, I think it was real enough to him that night.
My guess is, he was as happy to see the police as everyone else was.
